Case Summary:

Uber has consented to settle a class action alleging that it made misrepresentations or omissions in explaining its Safe Rides Fee and its background check process for drivers. For example, the complaint alleges that, although Uber claims it has an “industry leading” process for checking drivers’ backgrounds, it does not use fingerprints and therefore has no way of ensuring that drivers are who they say they are. The complaint further claims that money from the Safe Rides Fee is not used for “regular motor vehicle checks” or for sufficient “driver safety education.”
