This class action was brought against Rabbi Bernard Freundel and four religious organizations: the Georgetown Synagogue – Kesher Israel Congregation; the National Capital Mikvah, Inc.; the Rabbinical Council of America, Inc.; the Beth Din of the United States of America, Inc. The complaint alleged that Freundel did harm to females whom he videotaped without their consent at the National Capital Mikvah. A mikvah is a bath for Jewish ritual purifications. The complaint alleged negligent hiring, training, retention, and supervision; negligent infliction of emotional distress; intrusion upon seclusion; breach of warranty; premises liability; and negligence.
