The Festival Metropolitain pour la Musique Urbaine is settling a Canadian class action alleging that it violated the Consumer Protection Act by charging higher prices for tickets than advertised. The complaint alleged that the ticket sellers tacked on added fees and delivery costs that significantly raised ticket prices above the advertised amounts.


This settlement resolves a class action against Iowa’s Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). The complaint claimed that MUSL violated state laws in connection with the use of certain random number generating technology when it conducted drawings for intra- and interstate lotteries.

Epic Games, Inc. permits free downloads of its video games, including the game Fortnite, which is aimed at children. However, the free games aren’t always entirely free; they may involve in-app purchases. The complaint for this class action asking for a declaratory judgment confirming “a minor’s right to disaffirm in-app purchases…” That is, the complaint alleges that Epic cannot refuse to refund in-app purchases that were targeted at minors in games designed for minors.

Spotify, the digital on-demand music service, is paying more than $43 million to settle a class action alleging it made available for streaming or limited downloading music for which it did not have rights or a license for use. The complaint alleged the company had violated copyright laws.

What, exactly, is Ticketmaster’s TradeDesk program? The complaint for this class action alleges that it is simply to enable scalpers, so that Ticketmaster can get a second cut of revenue on sales.

This complaint claims that Ticketmaster, LLC and Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. have allowed ticket scalpers to flourish rather than getting rid of them, alleging that the companies receive kickbacks from scalpers’ sales. This allows them to make money on the same tickets twice, the complaint claims: once when the tickets are originally sold and then a larger amount when the scalpers sell the tickets at an inflated price.

“London’s most essential large concert venue” is the O2 Arena, selling fifty percent more tickets in 2016 than any other arena-sized venue in the world. Why, then, has rock star Ozzy Osbourne filed a class action relating to it? Because, the complaint says, Anschutz Entertainment Group, Inc. (AEG) requires that artists who book the O2 as part of a tour also book the Staples Center for the Los Angeles part of their tours, in what the complaint says is an anti-competitive condition that violates antitrust laws.

Metro-Goldwyn Studios, Inc. (MGM) and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, LLC have agreed to settle a class action alleging that they did not properly label certain boxed sets of James Bond movies.
